Dubai has always been the cultural hub of the Middle East region. International and local artists showcasing their work in Dubai, the Art industry is quickly picking up pace. This week we had the pleasure of chatting with Tarane Ali Khan and talked about the Third Line Gallery and her experiences working in the art industry of Dubai.

tarane-ali-khanHow long you been in Dubai?
I was born here and then moved away for high school (the Himalayas) and university (Toronto). Moved back to Dubai last January.

Where you originally from?
My mother is Iranian and dad, Indian.

What is your role at The Third Line?
I handle the gallery press and media: for the exhibitions, art fairs, artists and events.

What do you think is The Third Lines most successful event?
Besides every opening, (which is always great in terms of turnout and press wise!) I would have to say that Pecha Kucha is doing very well. The Third Line co-hosts - in collaboration with four creative partners - the international multimedia forum for artists and designers. The first two editions were held at the gallery in Al Quoz, but after the second one where over 450 people turned up, we had to change venues for safety and comfort reasons. The last PK Dubai was held at AUD outside on the lawns in a beautiful set up with more space, chairs and viewing access. The next and highly anticipated edition is set for mid-February 2009 (and application as accepted on a rolling basis to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Does The Third Line host regular events?
In addition to monthly exhibitions, The Third Line hosts non-profit, alternative programs to increase interest and debate in the region - this includes Kutub, a monthly, bi-lingual Arab literature appreciation circle, as well as multiple Documentary and Feature Film Series screened at the gallery.

How long have you been involved in the events industry?
I joined The Third Line in January 2008.

How did you first get interested in the events industry?
Comes with the job! But it's great. You get to meet so many people of various kinds and exciting ideas.

What do you think the future of event and entertainment business in the Middle East region?
So far it's great. And will only get better. I just think that in general, people (and my bank account) would agree that some of the costs to attend most of the events is just a little much. And by little I mean a lot!

Do you have any advice for young executives approaching a career in events management?
Go for it!

What is the best way for potential clients to contact you?
