With the Middle East art market quickly picking up pace, dealers and auction houses are heading for Dubai in search of new horizons. It is a truth of the art market that the richest nations always call the tune, setting global tastes, anointing the next stars, and establishing trends that the market may follow for years to come. We sat down with Katrina and talked about her experiences and views about the events industry in Dubai.

katrinaHow long you been in Dubai?
I've been in Dubai for two years, this January.

Where you originally from?
I moved here from Philadelphia - and was born about ½ hour outside the city in a town called King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.

What is your role at The Third Line?
I am the Events & Marketing Manager.

What do you think is your most successful event?
There's such a range of events here, so it is hard to pick one. In terms of a large turnout, I would say Pecha Kucha Dubai (which is organized by five groups, with main coordination by The Third Line), as through this event we consistently organize over 450 people to attend a grassroots arts/architecture/music/cultural discussion event.

How long have you been involved in the events industry?
I have been organizing events for years - since I was in University, although previously I was working in the educational / social justice field.

How did you first get interested in the events industry?
I became involved as someone who cares deeply about issues and communicating to people - the best way to communicate ideas and help someone become involved is through events.

What do you think the future of event and entertainment business in the Middle East region?
It appears to be growing. >From the point of view of cultural events, there is definitely an upsurge in terms of numbers as well as an increase in the quality and depth of events -- not just in Dubai, but across the Gulf and the larger Middle East region.

Do you have any advice for young executives approaching a career in events management?
You should learn as much as you can about the community in which you are organizing events - but most of all you should find a way to have fun.

What is the best way for potential clients to contact you?
