You have to twist your mind to understand the paintings of Iranian artist Alireza Massoumi. A grey urban jungle collides with a turquoise sky: colours so
crisp that the contrast is stronger than black and white. Each Painting is like a cartoon, a frame inside a frame: a letter from a post-globalised world. The stories are narrated within a complex symbolic setting, but still remain innocent at the same time. The painter is developing a strategy that goes beyond Philip Guston's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Guston) approach, yet appreciates the content and form in a subtle manner. Currently residing in London, which had a heavy influence on this collection, the 30-year-old Massoumi has a poetic vision that inspires nothing but hope.
