As the international art scene continues to find its way to Dubai with Art Dubai this month, seven locally-based artists match and challenge these standards in a multi-media exhibition converging around the idea of 'the fleeting moment'.
Opening on Sunday 15 March, the exhibition will feature the latest works by a group of professional and established Dubai-based artists showing contemporary painting, drawing, photography, sculpture and video. The diverse group of artists all address their own themes in their art. The works, however, are all related in their reference to 'the fleeting moment'; the passing of someone on the street, the opportunity taken or missed, the instant in time that is recorded.
The exhibition is an intriguing and thought-provoking one, and the works connect with the viewer on a universal level. Sarah Lahti, one of the featured artists describes the theme eloquently when she writes:
"We look at this recording for an instant, a minute, maybe even five minutes. Sometimes the impression stays with us, sometimes it fades away. Sometimes the constant din of a city that never stops regains control of our senses, and the fleeting moment is just that.".
"As Dubai's increasingly makes a name for itself internationally", says DUCTAC's Fathima Mohiuddin, "it is important to acknowledge and celebrate the talent that has lived here in Dubai all along. As an organization that nurtures an appreciation for the arts in the local community, one of our many aims is to back our locally-based artists. This group in particular, meet a high standard".
Dubai Community Theatre & Arts Centre is located on Level 2 of The Mall of The Emirates.
