Piano Poetry-20 March 2009

"We love life" - the bitter sweet mood of Mahmoud Darwish`s famous poem melts into a brilliant waltz from Franz Schubert. The works of the contemporary Arab poet and of the 19th century German composer enter a dialoge that bridges time and space and thus create a unique blend between Arabic poems and masterpieces of German and Europan piano music.

Dr. Mohammed Khalifa, who teaches Arabic at the University of Hamburg, recites poems by famous Arabic authors such as Mahmoud Darwish, Fuad Rifa and Gibran Kahlil Gibran. Laura Feldmann, a piano teacher in Hamburg and Cairo, complements the recitation with piano music from the romantic and impressionist period.

Dr. Mohammed Khalifa and Laura Feldmann presented their program with great success in Germany, and completed a concert tour through Egypt in 2008. The Goethe-Institut Gulf Region now invites them to perform at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair to enchant listeners of all ages and nationalities with its beautiful "piano poetry". Another performance takes place in Al Bastakiya, Dubai, on March 21, 8:15pm (after prayer).
